Post 1: Which Eclipse version to use?

In my journey from MS to Open Source the first thing to get to know was Eclipse, and IDE that is most used for development of java projects just like Visual Studio is most used when working on MS platform. 

Having worked with VS since back in 1995, when the IDE for Visual C++, Visual Basic and Web application development used to be different (MSVC, MSVB and Visual Interdev), to the current times when pretty much everything on MS world can be done using Visual Studio, I know that for the IDEs there are different versions and there different editions. Version is obviously something that comes over time with new features, functionality and bug fixes for earlier version and also possibly performance improvements and editions are more of functionality grouping that helps target a particular kind of development community. 

It took me a while to understand that Eclipse had its versions more as names like Kepler, Luna, Mars and these are alphabetically sorted, so Mars is the latest in these. In general it isn't an issue for I have got my alphabets right, but it still took a few seconds to resolve it especially for close versions like Kepler and Luna. As of writing this, Eclipse Mars 4.5 is the latest stable build available for development work. 

Visual Studio had a similar concept of having code names like Everett, Whidbey, Orcas etc, but these were used only during the alpha/beta kind of releases. Once the product was ready to ship it would typically be versioned using the year of release, so it was always easy to know which version came after which one, like Visual Studio 2015 being the latest in the series. 

Similar to the different editions of Visual Studio, Eclipse also has variants that can be downloaded and installed as per requirements like IDE for Java developers, for Java EE developers, for PHP developers, for C++ developers etc. Recently they have also provided a proper installer that can be used to install the required version and edition. 

In case you do not want to download and create your own setup, you could very well use the cloud hosted environment as well called Eclipse Che, similar to VS Team Services. 

So much for the right version/edition of Eclipse, I am currently using Mars.1 Release (4.5.1) Eclipse Java EE IDE for Web Developers for my current Java based web application project.

I was searching for a good place for a short weekend trip and found this reference to Hadshi temple. The pictures looked good and my mind was made up to visit this place on the weekend. With my birthday on 1 st December, family had no objection to visiting a temple. In fact they were more than happy. The place is about 45 km from my home, which is close to Hinjewadi. I took the Pune by pass till Chandni Chowk and then got onto the road going to Paud/Mulshi/Lavasa. The road till Paud bus stop is good. You will cross over many resorts on the way, will cross the Pirungut ghat, and continue straight past Pirungut on the way to Paud. Cross the Paud ghat as well and reach Paud ST bus stand on your right. Immediately after this take the right turn and drive about 15 km, crossing Girivan on the way, to reach the Arch on your left for the Pandurang temple. Travelogue: Day trip to Places near Pune

Come long weekend and the trend these days is that you need to be going out with family for the long weekend trip. However this also means that one has to make the bookings well in advance as otherwise usually nothing much is available at the last min. For the 26 th Jan weekend, we did realize a bit late and unfortunately as expected, didn't get any bookings anywhere. Spending the 3 days at home, wasn't making any sense, so we decided to rather make do with day trips so that we don’t have to stay anywhere. With this intention in mind, we looked up Rajaram’s PlacesNearPune blog site, and like in past, I did find options near Pune that were within 30-40 km range. Travelogue: Neelkantheshwar Temple

One visit to this place and you wonder, why such a beautiful temple (one of the best temple’s I have seen) is not on the regular tourist map of Pune. In fact it is almost as if this place doesn’t exists, for not many people are aware of it. The temple is named after Lord Shiva and depicts his blue throat due to the venom that he had swallowed during sagar manthan. It is a huge temple, with lots of open space, space to sit and enjoy the exquisite sculptures that tell different Hindu mythological tales. I have never seen so many sculptures in one place. See some of the pictures to get a sense of what you are missing, if you haven’t been to this place as yet. These pictures still don’t tell the complete story.
